Blowing Rock Academy Child Care Director

MINIMUM QUALIFACTIONS:

 

  1. Have either a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
    • 2 years of experience in a licensed child care center: or
    • an undergraduate, graduate, or associate degree, with at least 12 hours of child development, child psychology, early childhood education, or directly related field; or
    • a Child Development Associate Credential; or
    • technical college curriculum program in the area of childcare or early childcare; or
    • North Carolina Early Childhood Credentials (EDU 119) and one year of child care experience
  2. Must be knowledgeable of and able to recognize common symptoms of illness; and
  3. Must be available and able to be onsite to conduct administrative duties for at least 20 hours per week (administrative hours required is based on enrollment of less than 30 children); and
  4. Must obtain a “qualification letter” issued by NC DCDEE stating that the individual is a qualified childcare provider.

 

LEVEL 3 ADMINSTRATOR QUALIFICATIONS (Required for meeting enhanced standards to achieve 7 points in the star rated licensing system):

 

  1. Must meet all minimum requirements listed above; and
  2. Hold a Level 3 Administration Credential or its equivalent; and
  3. Have 4 years of full-time verifiable early childhood experience in an early childhood center teaching young children; or

Have 4 years of administration experience; or

Have 4 years of a combination of both types of experience.

 

TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS – DIRECTOR

  • Administration I and II
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • IT’S SIDS
  • Playground Safety Training
  • OSHA Training
  • Must complete annual training hours required by NC state law, based on education and experience

 

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES – DIRECTOR

 

Daily Duties

  • Maintain compliance of NC child care rules and regulations, fire and building codes, sanitation regulations, ITERS and ECERS requirements
  • Communicate with staff, children, and families
  • Staff supervision and provide support to staff as needed.
  • DSS attendance in NC Fast (take care of any issues, such as children disappearing from the roster, children not taken off roster, call in 5-day absences)
  • Ensure attendance is taken in each classroom (necessary for licensing, food program, etc.)
  • Ensure classroom ratios are met (cover any call-ins, staff according to attendance that day)
  • Answer phone calls, mail, and email
  • Manage crisis and mundane situations/issues

 

Additional duties that may or may not be part of your program:

  • Laundry

 

Weekly Duties

  • Staff scheduling (plan for upcoming staff vacations/time off requests, planning/preparation time)
  • Enrollment of new children
  • Check staff training worksheet for teachers needing trainings/inform staff of training needs
  • Review weekly lesson plans for each classroom

 

Monthly Duties

  • DSS Report/attendance in NC Fast
  • Review upcoming recertification dates for DSS parents
  • Document playground inspections
  • Ensure that classrooms meet rating scale requirements (adequate and appropriate materials)
  • Conduct, document, and maintain records of routine monthly fire drills
  • Check locked medicine boxes for expired child medications and/or medications no longer being administered.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings – maintain copy of agenda and minutes
  • Record-keeping – ensure any new staff/child files are updated and contain required paperwork/documents
  • New staff feedback (should occur at least weekly for first month of employment, then at least monthly for next 5 months of employment)
  • Prepare and disseminate monthly school newsletter
  • Maintain and update parent bulletin board(s)
  • Monitor teacher progress for documenting child assessment data

 

Quarterly Duties

  • Complete and turn in Stabilization Grant report
  • Provide individual staff feedback based on annual performance appraisal
  • Review staff documentation/assessment data in preparation for finalizing checkpoints
  • Conduct, document and maintain records of “shelter-in-place” or “lockdown” drills

 

Additional duties that may or may not be part of your program:

 

 

Yearly Duties

  • Contact fire marshal for annual fire inspection (see page 11 - Child Care Rules)
  • Check and maintain fire extinguishers
  • Review center policies and procedures, personnel handbook, parent handbook – revise as needed – inform parents/staff of revisions and distribute updated written policies/procedures
  • Review the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan to ensure all. Information is current and accurate
  • Review the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan with all staff, interns, and volunteers and maintain documentation of such review
  • Distribute annual family/staff program evaluation surveys (January each year) – analyze and organize responses – prepare and share with P&R Director – develop written plan for improvement - provide improvement plans to staff/families
  • Complete required paperwork for state licensing consultant
  • Prepare operating budget for next fiscal year
  • Prepare staff for family/teacher conferences (twice yearly)
  • Prepare schedule for family/teacher conferences (twice yearly)
  • Review aggregated yearly child assessment data for program evaluation and use in planning for staff development
  • Distribute forms and gather updated emergency medical information on each child.
  • Distribute forms and gather an updated health questionnaire for each staff member
  • Review Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan – make revisions as necessary - review with staff – ensure all emergency supplies are available and dates have not expired, as applicable
  • Review individual staff development plans, document goals attained and file in individual staff member’s file, work with staff to create plan for upcoming year
  • Review program emergency medical care plan with staff – document review, obtain staff signatures and file documentation
  • Ensure medical action plans are updated for any child enrolled with special health care needs
  • Conduct annual staff evaluation appraisals on each individual staff member
  • Participate in grant writing

 

Additional Duties (includes duties that may occur sporadically or routinely)

  • Recruit, interview, and hire new staff
  • New staff orientation
  • Maintain positive relationships with families and the community
  • Providing/scheduling training for staff
  • Conduct parent meetings as necessary
  • Equipment replacement as needed
