2019 Summer Day Camp Registration

Reminder: 2019 Summer Day Camp registration begins TOMORROW for Blowing Rock taxpayers. That is Friday, March 1st, 2019 at 9:00 AM EST. Registration this year will go through our new online community portal (RecDesk). Camp spots go very quickly and we strongly suggest that you get a head start now before registration opens tomorrow. You will want to visit and set up an account if you have not already done so. You will need to create a profile under your "Household" for each child that you intend to enroll into camp. During registration tomorrow you will select the camp weeks that you want to register for, and they will be broken down by age group as well. You can select multiple weeks at a time by using the + button next to each week/age group that you want to sign up for. Our staff will also be available to assist and answer questions. Registration for non-taxpayers will begin Monday, March 11th, 2019 at 9 AM EST.

Junior Counselor registrations will also be on Monday, March 11th, 2019 at 9 AM EST.


2019 Summer Employment Opportunities

Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation is looking for motivated, energetic, customer service-oriented people to become involved in our summer recreation programs. If you’re looking for part-time or full-time employment for the summer, and like to be outside and active, we have positions for you! All positions may be applied for at There will very likely be multiple people hired for each position. Please call 828-295-5222 for more information regarding these positions.


Available Positions

Lifeguard– This position will begin May 20th and end September 2nd.  CPR, & First Aid Certification will be offered free of charge to those who are hired. Part-time and full-time positions are available. Weekend and evening work required.

Summer Camp Counselor- This position will start June 10thand end August 9th. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning and implementing daily activities for the assigned age group and ensuring safety of campers during activities. This is a very active position. Full-time position. Driver’s License Required.

Park Attendant-This position will start the first weekend in May and run through the end of October. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: cleaning restrooms, picking up trash, and overseeing the park. Weekend and evening work required. Part-time and full-time positions available.


RecDesk Community Portal Launch

2019 is shaping up to be an exciting year at Blowing Rock Parks & Recreation! Over the coming months we will be rolling out some major changes that will streamline our department and improve the ease-of-use for all of you. These changes will be made in stages and Stage 1 is happening TODAY!

Today we would like to officially announce our partnership with RecDesk and launch our RecDesk Community Portal! RecDesk is a cloud-based recreation software that radically simplifies the process of registering for programs, signing up for memberships, reserving town facilities, and more. 

We are launching today with the ability to register for 2019 Kinder Basketball, purchase 2019 Robbins Pool Memberships, and reserve town facilities for your events. More registrations will be available later this year.

American Legion Renovation Complete

ALA ribbon cutting ceremony was held on June 8, 2015 . The Town would like to acknowledge community support from the following: The American Legion Post 256, Greene Construction, Inc, David Patrick Moses Architect, Inc, McGill Associates, State of NC Parks & Recreation Trust Fund, Blowing Rock Alcohol Beverage Control Board, Blowing Rock Historical Society, Albert Yount, Citizens of Blowing Rock, Current and Former Council Members, and Blowing Rock Public Works. Rental Information


Staffing and Schedules

The Recreation Department has six full-time positions: the Parks and Recreation Director,  Assistant Director, Facilities Coordinator, Parks Maintenance Technician, Landscape Specialist and a Landscape Assistant. In addition to the permanent positions, there are a substantial number of seasonal positions.


This department is also responsible for the landscaping in Broyhill Park, Cannon Gardens, Memorial Park, and other Town-maintained planting areas. Visit our Landscaping page to learn more information about the plant species we use throughout the Town of Blowing Rock.




A primary goal of this department is to develop, beautify, conserve, and maintain a system of parks which will assure quality leisure opportunities for all that reside and visit Blowing Rock.
